If you thrive in a hands-on role, get a real buzz from running a busy service, and delight in hosting and delivering excellent service then this opportunity to permanently join our award-winning team at The Machrie Hotel and Golf Links on Islay could be ideal for you.
Overlooking the idyllic 7 miles of silver sands at Laggan beach the hotel only opened late 2018 but already has been recognised as “Scottish Hotel of the Year 2020” and our historic golf links today is ranked in the top 20 courses in Scotland. We feel it is now time for our food to shine!
With panoramic views across the links and stunning ocean sun sets, Restaurant 18 and our Stag lounge are true jewels in the crown here at The Machrie.
Our guests come from both the island and far and wide, attracted by the beauty and challenge of our links course, the wonderful wildlife, unforgettable whisky indulgencies (after all there are 9 Whisky distilleries on Islay) or indeed just to relax, take in the fresh air and great views and delight in some fantastic food.
Chef Iain Nicholson’s new menu will celebrate the best of Scottish coastal provenance providing the ideal back drop for pairing our selection of wines and of course our Islay whisky in a relaxed informal environment to gain rosette recognition for The Machrie.
The food and beverage areas of the hotel are busy and a hub of activity right from breakfast, morning coffees, lunch, refreshments for our thirsty golfers, afternoon teas and evening dinner. The hotel has facilities for small private dinners and weddings, our courtyard is great for summer barbecues and the Snug for private whisky tastings. There is no large banqueting hall.
We are looking for someone who enjoys driving standards and service offerings and is excited about the planned vision for our food and The Machrie. You will be able to use your strong food and drink service knowledge and skills to inspire and lead, coach and train our passionate team to confidently interact with our guests in a friendly, respectful and caring manor guiding them on food and drink choices to help them create memorable experiences.
You will also be able to network with colleagues at our sister properties, The Pierhouse Seafood Hotel and Restaurant, Port Appin and The Three Chimneys, fine dining on Skye.
The Machrie is a key part of the community here on Islay and so will you be. Getting to know the Islay golf club members, the local distillery, gin and ale providers and regular locals and visitors to the hotel.
We know island life is not for everyone, but if you don’t need the bright lights to be entertained, and instead can equally enjoy a simpler life appreciating nature’s glorious gifts and enjoy being part of a team with a ‘can do attitude’, then please send your CV and cover note to Alison Muir, Head of Human Resources at firstname.lastname@example.org
Islay easily connects with the mainland by either a 20 min flight from Glasgow or direct drive/Citylink bus connection to and from Glasgow and the ferry terminal.
Looking after our team as well as our guests is equally important to us. This role can offer both single or family company accommodation locally (would be beneficial if you have your own car, but not essential). We provide a competitive salary, Management bonus scheme, comfortable accommodation, as well as the opportunity to become a member of our stunning golf links.
We are open to applications from couples (not working in the same department though).
