Our practice facilities
To prepare for your round at The Machrie, take advantage of our exceptional practice and tuition facilities, which are among the most comprehensive in Scotland.
There’s a covered driving range, hitting out into a huge expanse, with a variation of target greens from 50 to 270 yards to enable you to warm up or practice all aspects of your game before heading out to the links. Few golfers can reach the end of this range!
En route to the 1st tee are a putting green and short-game area where you will find similar conditions and challenges that you will find on the links. You can also work on your bunker play.

Introducing the Hebrides
We are especially proud of our “Hebrides” putting green, located between the 1st and 18th fairways. This enormous 4,550 square metres of fun, inspired by the “Himalayas” alongside the Old Course at St Andrews, features all conceivable slopes and contours and can be enjoyed by experts, novices and families alike.
For a thorough short-game examination head to the six hole par three Wee Course, which will surely pay dividends when you get out on the links. And it’s a fun way to introduce the whole family to golf.
Even bad weather does not mean that golf is off for the day – visit our Golf Academy to practise on our Trackman 4 or enjoy playing other famous courses with our simulator.
Trackman 4 and Tuition
Our hugely popular head professional David Foley PGA will combine science and experience using the latest Trackman technology, used by professional golfers worldwide. We will be able to record the finest details of your swing and explain the most effective ways to transform your game. We aim to capture the excitement, passion and enjoyment of the game’, helping all levels of golfers improve in ways they never imagined.
David can transform absolute beginners into enthusiastic players, and will improve even the best players at the Machrie. A one hour lesson starts at £60.
Our Head Professional
David Foley is our AA PGA Head Golf Professional. He brings a wealth of experience on and off the course. David has many accolades from his playing career, winning numerous professional tournaments and was the Irish PGA Fourball Champion in 2013.
David was previously Regional Head Coach for the Golfing Union of Ireland and has an established reputation as an experienced golf coach straddling all levels of player, from elite to beginner.
